Plastics from ELVs and the role of a primary plastics producer in recycling

So far, over 500 participants representing 250 leading recycling companies (check the list of the attending companies here) have registered for the upcoming BIR World Recycling Convention in Amsterdam. Attendees will benefit from the latest updates on the international recycling markets  and the short to middle term outlook provided by expert guest speakers and senior businesspeople on the divisional and committee boards.

The BIR Plastics Committee under the chairmanship of Surendra Patawari Borad of Gemini Recycling (BEL) continues to bring the issue of plastics from shredders centre-stage, with a guest presentation from Arie De Jong, Chief Executive Officer of ARN Holding BV (NED).

At the committees plenary meeting that will be held on Monday, 24 October 2016 at 9.00 in the framework of the BIR World Recycling Convention at the Okura Hotel in Amsterdam, Mr De Jong will talk about the Achievements and challenges in end-of-life vehicles and share with attending delegates his expertise based on his extensive career in the automotive sector, which started at Ford Motor Company in Amsterdam in the after-sales department. After having served in Cologne for Ford of Europe, he returned to Ford in Amsterdam and held several management jobs in the area of car and commercial vehicle sales and after-sales.  Before he was appointed CEO of ARN Holding, he was Director After-Sales for BMW Group Netherlands. ARNs activities encompass ELV recycling, post shredder technology and consulting on recycling, mobility and sustainability.

Second guest speaker will be Herman Van Roost, Business Development Manager Recycling at Total (NED).  Representing the primary plastics industry, Mr Van Roost will shed light on the Role of a virgin plastics producer in plastics recycling. From 1980 to 1996 he worked in the Antwerp petrochemical industry for Exxon Chemical and PetroFina, in several engineering/maintenance functions, and as maintenance manager and plant manager. Between 1996 and 2013 he held several business management positions, in the fields of polyethylene, elastomers and base chemicals. Mr Van Roost was active in Totals industrial JV strategy deployment, first around Totals main Antwerp site and later in new projects in the Middle East. In 2014, he returned to Totals Polymers department as Business Development Manager Recycling, launching Totals activity in the circular economy for plastics with the recently announced Circular Compounds. Herman Van Roost participates in the world of plastic waste and recycling as President of Plarebel and board member of FostPlus and Valorplast.
