Alexandra Weibel-Natan – Metal Trading / Pan American Zinc (USA)

If there is one BIR memory that changed my life, it is definitely the London Convention in October 2018. A former agent of mine, Josephita Harry, who had recently joined Pan American Zinc / Metal Trading, invited me to meet her new boss, Dan Marjenberg. During our conversation, Dan explained his business, which at the time was mainly focused on zinc trading. Since I was working in non-ferrous recycled material rather than zinc, I listened with interest but left convinced that I would never hear from Dan again. A few days after I returned to Paris, I received a long email from him. He was looking for someone to build and develop a recycled-material trading department for the French company and believed I was the right person for the role. Seven years later, I am still part of the team. Looking back, what seemed like the least promising meeting of the Convention turned out to be the most important one of my career. It is a great reminder that, at BIR, you never know which conversation might change your future.
