Uruguay: tariffs spark business challenges

Since US President Donald Trump began to implement his tariff increases and spark retaliatory actions around the world, LME prices dropped by around 10% before subsequently rebounding, thus making it challenging to do business.

The havoc surrounding sea freight movements appears to be easing as more shipping space seems to have become available and there have been fewer cases of delays and the skipping of ports.

As from January this year, all e-scrap exports must go through Basel permitting procedures. As a small country located between the twin giants of Brazil and Argentina, this makes it difficult to compete against informal recyclers who smuggle e-scrap to other countries because of all the time and money that the Basel procedures require.
