As Scandinavia’s scrap traders ready themselves for Christmas and New Year, they can look back on an extraordinary 2021 characterized by extreme volatility in most metal prices, quick changes in sales markets and many legislative issues that have required attention.

LME copper is still at a relatively high level and the metal is attracting good demand in the physical market. There are supply shortages for some copper alloy products.

With LME aluminium experiencing high levels of volatility, market players are trying to navigate their course through the quite dramatic short-term price changes. Alloys containing magnesium are in particularly high demand.

LME nickel is also quite volatile. Demand for stainless steel is good at present and supply seems to be keeping pace, leaving the market in balance.

For Zorba sellers, the major issue has been notification of materials heading to Hong Kong.

Supply of cables appears weak, with small margins for those offered.
