Here’s to the next 75 years!

BIR held an excellent Amsterdam Convention in May. The event attracted the largest attendance on record and was made even more special given that the first meeting of our world organization was held in the same city 75 years earlier.

So much has changed over that time and yet BIR has remained a constant, unifying voice for the recycling industry at the world level - an organization dedicated to promoting global free trading of recyclable materials. BIR members recognize that this will inevitably maximize their business opportunities and, through ensuring the proper management of waste and recyclables in all countries, make the world a better place.

It is inspiring to see so many more companies recognizing the importance of BIR and wishing to become members. The Non-Ferrous Metals Division plays an important role within BIR and I feel very proud of the work that the board does in this capacity.

The best way to predict the future is to create it, and reusing non-ferrous raw materials will ensure that BIR’s next 75 years will leave a further legacy that will be globally celebrated.
