No matter what the economic climate, our role remains vital

It is very special to write these opening remarks to this Mirror as the new President of the BIR Non-Ferrous Metals Division. I am delighted to have this opportunity to serve you and am very grateful to members of the Non-Ferrous board for the huge effort they all make every year to help our organization succeed. In particular, I would like to highlight Natallia Zholud for the huge volume of behind-the-scenes work she has put in this year.

The board has set out some major work projects for the coming years and it will be exciting to see these come to fruition. I will report back on these in the near future.

Reflecting on 2023, it has presented a few challenges compared to, say, the bumper ride of 2022. I am sure there are some industry players who are pleased that the year is drawing to a close. In fairness, though, the role we collectively play in recycling raw materials remains vital, regardless of the economic climate.

Having said that, I’m sure we are all still hoping for a prosperous 2024. A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!
