Recent weather patterns have brought Arctic-like conditions to numerous parts of Canada, with temperatures dropping as low as -45 degC (or -49 degF) in some areas. Recyclers are reporting a reduction in traffic across multiple supply areas of the industry, notably from retail customers and smaller recyclers who are struggling to get equipment functioning in these freezing conditions.

The Canada Greener Homes Grant scheme has gained traction following its launch in June last year, with figures showing in excess of 9000 approved projects and over 17,000 loans. Having recorded more than 49,000 heat pump changes and the replacement of over 38,000 windows and doors, the programme has provided recyclers with a tailwind amid a sluggish manufacturing sector.
