2025: a year of defining challenges

As the global non-ferrous metals sector continues to evolve, it faces both challenges and opportunities. The coming year will present some clear and defining challenges, for which BIR will be conducting its expert advocacy work on behalf of members.

Supporting our arguments with solid data is key, and with new BIR publications expected to be completed this year, I am really looking forward to digesting and applying the information these provide. Of particular note will be the major study produced for BIR by KPMG on the environmental benefits of recycling which will quantify the positive impact of secondary production when compared to the primary route.

This is also a year in which we will start to recognise the amazing contributions of individuals to have blessed our industry over the decades. In 2025, our first Non-Ferrous Legends Award recipient will be announced and, as we move closer to the May Convention in Valencia, more information will be shared on this award and how special it will be.
