A time for reflection and for remembering absent friends

As 2025 draws to an end, we take stock and reflect on the year that has been, the memories that we have made and the enjoyment we have had among friends and family. As each year passes, we learn more, gain new perspectives and grow.

It is also an appropriate time to reflect on absent friends and family. It is with a heavy heart that we must record the loss of Mr Ma (Ma Hongchang). He made a huge contribution to our industry, to BIR and to the Non-Ferrous Metals Division board over many, many years - including as an unfailing reporter to this Mirror on regulatory and policy developments in China.

Mr Ma will be remembered as someone who facilitated communication and understanding of Chinese policy, waste import regulations and global non-ferrous market developments. He was both honourable and caring, and will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for his unwavering support for BIR and for strengthening collaboration across borders for the benefit of recycling and the environment.
