Plastics recyclers are still in a difficult situation amid low demand and a continuing lack of optimism in the market. Even though recent weeks have brought more activity following the summer holiday period, prices and demand remain low. Furthermore, the EU’s revised Waste Shipment Regulation prohibiting shipments of polyolefins to non-OECD countries is having a major impact, with the larger volumes of material in the market resulting in lower prices.

The regulation has combined with the summer break and weak demand to yield rather low orders for recyclates and generally declining prices. As long as demand remains weak, there will be no major price increases. There have been no positive stimuli in the market over recent months.
