News round-up April 2020 - BIR makes plea for recycling

The Bureau of International Recycling has issued a call to governments around the world to keep recycling services going through the coronavirus pandemic.

It said businesses that are collecting, sorting and recycling wastes from households and industrial sources are essential "as they serve to protect human health and the environment".

It added: "Furthermore, recycling operations are providing secondary raw materials, critical to downstream industries, some of them directly involved in combatting the Covid-19 pandemic."
