Webinar BIR Plastics Committee: "How to sustain the positive momentum"
At the online meeting of the BIR Plastics Committee in May, it was suggested that a watershed moment had been reached by the plastics recycling industry, with high levels of demand and elevated prices expected to encourage increased recycling activity as major brands continue to assimilate recycled plastics into their products in ever larger proportions. A recent report has even suggested that global plastics recycling will triple in the years to 2030. How can we ensure that momentum is sustained? How do we boost recycling from household sources and design for recyclability, particularly in the key packaging segment? And how is the industry coping right now with supply problems, difficult freight conditions and the uncertainties created by enforcement of Basel Convention amendments? All this and more will be covered at the must-watch BIR Plastics Committee webinar on 8 November 2021 at 3pm CET.
One of the topics that will be particularly discussed is the decoupling of prices (primary versus recycling materials), and Plastics Committee Chairman Henk Alssema (Vita Plastics, the Netherlands) has invited Mark Victory, Senior editor recycling at ICIS (GBR) to provide expert insight regarding the topic. Mr Victory has been with ICIS since 2008, and has covered recycling markets throughout his time with the company – including 8 years as the editor of the R-PET report. He is currently the editor of the R-PE and R-PP reports, which he launched in 2019. Prior to joining ICIS, Mr Victory covered structured products, international bonds, and commercial paper markets. As a follow-up on the virtual meeting in May, Theo van Ravesteyn, Non-executive Chairman, MSC Nederland will provide an update on the unpredictability and delays in the global container supply chains. Mr van Ravesteyn has a long and successful career in a variety of management functions in global logistics. In 2008, he started working as Managing Director for MSC Nederland bv, one of the world leaders in global container shipping. At present, he is non-executive Chairman of MSC in the Netherlands, board member of the VCR and Management advisor of the Euro Rijn Group and the Rotterdam Polymer Hub.
Both guests and Plastics Committee members Sally Houghton (Plastic Recycling Corporation of California, USA), Max Craipeau (Greencore Resources Ltd, China), Andrei Mihai Sofian (Rematholding, Romania) and Steve Wong (China Sustainable Plastics Association) will engage in an interactive discussion to address in more details a variety of aspects raised by the guest presentations.
