BIR Abu Dhabi 2023 – Programme announcement for Ferrous Division: What does the future hold for recycled steel?
Ferrous Plenary Session:
What does the future hold for recycled steel?
Following a turbulent 2022, the first quarter of this year brought some welcome relief - partly because a mild winter had diluted Europe’s energy crisis and because banking worries in the USA and Switzerland had fallen short of escalating into full-blown disaster. Subsequently, however, the recycled steel market fell 20% and has been largely becalmed at these lower levels for several months amid slow demand fuelled by economic and geopolitical uncertainty. So what could change this picture? A more robust recovery in China? An end to the cycle of interest rate hikes? Join us at the BIR Ferrous Division meeting in Abu Dhabi on October 23 to hear industry experts evaluate the current position of the recycled steel industry and where the future may lead.

Invited guest speaker Davide Braga is leading the Global Capital Equipment Sales at Danieli Centro Recycling (Italy), a product line which he was instrumental in founding when he joined the Danieli Group in 2009.
Since 2012, Davide has been the Product Manager of Technical Sales within the same Group. In 2022, he assumed leadership of Global Capital Equipment Sales at Danieli Centro Recycling. Originally from Adria, Italy, Davide’s educational path started with a degree in classical music from the "Conservatorio di Musica Buzzolla," followed by studies in Material Engineering at the "Università degli Studi di Ferrara." Davide is known for his passion for sustainability, leading the Research & Development Group's efforts to reduce the gap towards zero waste and zero emissions. Danieli Group is among the world’s top three manufacturers of plants and machines for the metals industry. The group’s companies use their own technologies to manufacture and install competitive machines and plants worldwide, supplying both single units and turnkey plants. Davide’s presentation will cover the “Developments of recycled steel quality requirements requested by new steel making technologies worldwide”.
Kedar
Joshi is Markets Manager Asia at Canada-based Davis Index, a BIR member company that provides the manufacturing supply chain with price benchmarks for recycled materials, base metals, steel, stainless steel, and alloys along with market intelligence, news, and analysis.
Kedar, who has been with Davis Index since 2019, will be presenting a Middle Eastern and Asia market context, more specifically focusing on “How carbon neutrality will impact recycled steel trade”.

The session will also feature a presentation by Ferrous Statistics Advisor Rolf Willeke with an update of the key findings of the 14th edition of World Steel Recycling in Figures.
