New programme highlights BIR Copenhagen 2024: Non-Ferrous Metals: Base metals in 2024 and beyond
Always seeking out the latest hot topics to debate at its twice-yearly meetings, the BIR Non-Ferrous Metals Division board has chosen to highlight base metals and copper in particular at its session in Copenhagen on Monday May 27.
The red metal market has built substantial upward momentum over the last few months owing to the potent combination of supply concerns and gathering demand, not least in support of energy transition goals. On the LME, indeed, copper has recently been establishing its highest price levels in well over a year.
Given that demand appears unlikely to decline any time soon, just how high can the copper market travel? What are the main challenges surrounding the metal? And what can be expected beyond 2024? These questions will provide the focus for discussions in Copenhagen, to be chaired by divisional President Paul Coyte.
The debate will feature expert input from two guest speakers.
Andreas Fenster is Vice President Metals Management Europe at Germany-based Wieland Group - one of the world’s leading suppliers of semi-finished copper and copper alloy products, with customers in a range of future-oriented fields such as electromobility, connectivity and urbanization. He will be focussing on the ‘New challenges in copper recycling within the EU’.
Highly-ex
perienced Edward Meir, Senior Commodities Analyst at Marex, a diversified global financial services platform, will be sharing his thoughts on ‘Base metals for 2024 and beyond’. With a particular focus on both the copper and aluminium indices, Ed will provide a good overview of the current market and forward outlook.
Their presentations will be followed by a panel discussion on ‘A general overview and future trends of the wider non-ferrous metals markets’ involving the speakers, guest panellist Christian Bonnicksen, Product Manager Non-Ferrous at HJHansen (DNK), and divisional board members Elinor Feuer, Managing Director at Chilanga AB (SWE) and Murat Bayram, Managing Director at EMR (GBR). The session will provide ample opportunity for delegates attending to ask questions and make contributions from the floor.
