The global stainless steel and special alloys market continues to face significant headwinds. Persistent price volatility, US tariff impacts and geopolitical tensions have fostered a cautious "wait-and-see" attitude among traders. At the same time, the rise of nickel pig iron (NPI) – with its higher environmental footprint – is reshaping raw material flows and challenging the role of stainless steel scrap in decarbonisation strategies.

In this context, recyclers are calling for updated, fairer trade and environmental regulations to ensure a level playing field and sustain circular, low-carbon steel production.

This important session, chaired by Joost Van Kleef, Oryx Stainless (NLD), features two renowned industry experts who will provide insights and on-the-ground perspectives on how the industry is adapting to evolving market dynamics and upcoming regulatory frameworks.

Stainless Steel & Special Alloys Committee Member Vegas Yang will present a summary of the latest BIR World Mirror on Stainless Steel & Special Alloys, highlighting key trends and stressing the need for fair competition amid increasing regulation and carbon-related trade measures.
