BIR welcomes new Membership Acquisition & Development Officer

The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) is pleased to announce that Ms Sofía Placitelli has joined the BIR team on 7th April in the newly created role of Membership Acquisition & Development Officer.

Sofía has a strong international background and brings relevant experience in membership engagement and stakeholder relations. Originally from Uruguay, she holds a degree in International Studies from Universidad ORT Uruguay. Prior to joining BIR, she had been working for a leading trade association in a similar role. At BIR, she will support the organisation’s international growth by expanding into key regions including Asia, Latin America and Africa.

“We are delighted to welcome Sofía to the BIR team,” says Arnaud Brunet, BIR Director General. “Her international perspective and proven track record in membership development will be invaluable as we continue to grow and strengthen BIR’s presence in emerging markets. Sofía’s expertise will help ensure that BIR’s footprint as the global federation of recycling industries expands even further across continents.”

BIR members will have the opportunity to meet Sofía in person at the BIR World Recycling Convention & Exhibition 2026, taking place this June in Gothenburg.
