BIR launches global membership magazine The Recyclist

  • 16 April 2024

The Recyclist CoverToday marks the official launch of The Recyclist, a new biannual magazine published by the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), that has been created for the membership organisation’s 1000+ members, as well as key stakeholders across the world. The Recyclist will first be revealed at the ISRI 2024 Convention in Las Vegas at 12.50 PDT today, when BIR President Susie Burrage OBE will present the magazine on-stage during the live ‘Pile of Scrap’ podcast hosted by John Sacco (President of Sierra International Machinery).

Showcasing the importance and breadth of global recycling, the magazine hopes to decisively contribute to a sea-change in the industry’s reputation, highlighting just how vital it is to the global circular economy.

The pages will bring global news and views from the diverse and vibrant industry, providing readers with a breadth of articles including first-hand BIR insights on its most important initiatives, as well as exclusive interviews from global industry leaders. Covering everything from community regeneration to government advocacy, the first edition features:

  • A 'Big Interview' with futurist Matthew Griffin who discusses the recycling industry’s reputation and how it is punching well below its weight.
  • Insights into the EU Waste Shipment Regulation
  • Spotlighting stand-out member comments from across the globe
  • A visitor’s guide to Copenhagen, the venue for BIR’s upcoming World Recycling Convention and Exhibition 2024 - one of the recycling industry's most influential events of the year

The magazine is an initiative by Susie Burrage OBE, BIR’s first female President in its 75-year history.

Ms Burrage comments: "I am proud to announce the launch of The Recyclist magazine, a project close to my heart and something I have eagerly anticipated since assuming the role of BIR President in May 2023. It holds immense potential to unite, inspire, and inform not just our members, but also to challenge global perceptions of our sector. Through this platform, we want the world to take notice of the industry as a whole, acknowledging the huge opportunity we have to contribute to the betterment of our planet. And I would particularly like to thank the amazing BIR team, the publishing house AML and marketing group Selbey Anderson for their incredible work and BIR Communications Committee Chairman Ibrahim Aboura for his unwavering support and for having found the magazine’s name, The Recyclist."

Available as an E-edition or a sustainably printed glossy magazine, the pages have been crafted from recycled paper with eco-friendly ink. The magazine is currently being mailed to all BIR members in 70 countries world-wide.
