STRUCTURE OF THE ORGANISATION

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Ratifies the main decisions regarding BIR and has full power to achieve the objectives of the Federation. Is convened once a year by the Director General on behalf of the Executive Committee and under the mandate of the BIR President. Only effective members have voting rights. Decisions are taken by simple majority.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The decision-making body of the organisation. Consists of the President, the Treasurer, the Immediate Past President, the Presidents of the Commodity Divisions and the BIR Director General. All important decisions regarding the Association are taken by the Executive Committee which meets four times a year.

Represent a specific material and are headed by a president/chairman who in general is supported by an elected board. Two additional BIR committees cover cross-commodity issues pertaining to trade and environmental matters: the International Environment Council and the International Trade Council

SECRETARIAT

Based in Brussels, the General Secretariat manages the daily operations of BIR to ensure that its objectives are met. Its multilingual staff works in English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Romanian and Turkish.
